Home of the Nagas, the state is blessed with a bounty of natural biodiversity, it can only be matched by the richness of culture and people. It is the hilly paradise of Man, and beasts alike, such as the Mithun, Tragopan; the vacationing spot of the Amur Falcon, and the kingdom of the majestic Hornbill in whose name the famous Hornbill Festival is held annually in December.
Dimapur, the stage for the NEIMUN Conference 2016 is located located 74km from Kohima, the state’s capital. Dimapur district is 166m above sea level, and recognized as the gateway to Nagaland with both the railhead and airport located here. As the state’s commercial hub, it maintains industries ranging from rubber works and concrete, to sugar and bamboo. It also plays a big role in conserving flora and fauna in the form of the Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary and Rangapahar Wildlife Sanctuary and Forest Reserve; ancient history at the Kachari Ruins; culture in the form of the North East Zone Cultural Centre; and centre of other tourist attractions like The Bamboo Emporium, and the Diezephe Craft Museum.
Nagaland is popularly known for the Hornbill Festival, held in the first week of December. This ‘festival of the Festivals’ is a celebration of the diverse tribal culture and a window for the world to see Nagaland.
