NEIMUN Observes INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY, 2023

Noting the theme for this year “Green Skills for Youth: towards a sustainable World”, NEIMUN Foundation observed the International Youth Day on the 12th of August, 2023 in Kohima.
The NEIMUN Secretariat team organized a panel discussion at D’Cafe with one of the founders of E-Circle, Bendangwala Walling which was hosted by our Deputy USG Media and Communication, Tiapong Tzudir. The short session included a very interactive and educational discussion about e-waste management. E-Circle is one of the only e-waste collection centers authorized by the Nagaland Pollution Control Board and works directly with the Hulladek Recycling Private Limited in Kolkata. E-Circle was started in the year 2018 by two young women, Sowete-u L. Letro and Bendangwala Walling and since then they have been sensitizing people about the issue of electronic waste.  With a mission towards achieving a sustainable world, e-waste management is a very necessary step in realizing this goal. According to a report by the Central Pollution Control  Board, India generated approximately 708,445 tones of e-waste in 2017-18 and 771, 215 tones in 2018-19.
Following the panel discussion, a 2017 Naga documentary film by Kohima-based filmmaker Sesino Yhoshü called “The Pangti Story” was screened as well. The film explores the transition of an entire village from one that slaughtered thousands of Amur Falcons,to becoming their most fervent preservationists. Keneisenuo Sorhie enlightened us with a beautiful song and the event was attended by various media houses and students from different colleges across Kohima.
