MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL OF NEIMUN 2017
Dear Young Peace Rangers, Change makers and well wishers,
It is my pleasure to invite you to the fifth session of the North East India International Model United Nations India, to be held in Dimapur, Nagaland from December 15th to 18th, 2017. The NEIMUN Secretariat 2017 will have the privilege to be your humble host to celebrate its 5th Anniversary here in Nagaland, a colourful place of vibrant cultures known as the ‘Land of Festivals’. Over the past four years, NEIMUN has witnessed the active participation of over 2000 students representing some of the best schools and colleges from many states of the country. Also, NEIMUN is the first and premier MUN conference in India’s Northeast, it is one of the largest conference in the region and the first in India that follows the UN4MUN Rules of Procedures introduced by the UN Department of Public Information. NEIMUN 2017 will be celebrating its 5th year of engaging young people by making a roadmap to holistic change and sustainable peace in this volatile region. It will be hosting more than 400 young minds from across the country in this edition to a celebration of diversity and mosaic cultures through its youth power with the theme “Youth, Peace and Security”. This year’s Conference will allow our enthusiastic delegates to participate in the simulation of various committees under the UN General Assembly. Besides the celebration, NEIMUN 2017 will further engage our enthusiastic young change-makers by setting the conference theme of ‘Youth, Peace and Security’ into an agenda for the region calling upon stakeholders and policy makers in engaging youths at key processes of decision making, prevention and resolution of conflict to secure the future we want. This year will also witness a wider space and scope for young people to talk across generations for sustainable peace and securing solutions by setting engaging agendas even after the conference. “As millennial youths we are faced with many challenges ahead of us, at the same time we also have many opportunities in our hands. For being young is an enormous power in itself. We have the greatest opportunity to be the most important part of history that can be made. The first generation that can end poverty in any forms and the last generation that can fight climate change. Let us remember that we are and can be the sustainable generations, we are the weapons of peace and a catalyst in making our future resilient. We are the hope and the change. Welcome to NEIMUN 2017, embark this challenging journey”. NEIMUN is a platform where the young minds come together to discuss ideas for the better change of the society. Above all, we hope that NEIMUN will challenge and inspire delegates to take the lessons learned at conference beyond the committee room, continuing to grapple with the complex issues in the world today and work towards change.
