Social Impact Events
GLOBAL VILLAGE
Continuing with NEIMUN’s aim to bridge geographical and cultural boundaries, the ‘Global Village’ was initiated as a social event. It is a reflection of NEIMUN’s hope that one day it becomes the global norm to celebrate all our differences and similarities. This segment of the Conference encourages delegates to embrace new cultures and ethnicities from across India and the globe. During the ‘Global Village’ event, delegates participate by sharing their traditional history through the expression of age-old folk dances, songs, music-making, and storytelling that have been carefully preserved till today.
PEACE CELEBRATION
This social event is an improvised rendition of the Peace Celebration, originally developed by the Peace Channel for Peace clubs. In this event, the delegates will learn about the importance of peacemaking through unity and cooperation by engaging in various activities like ‘Ice Breakers’, ‘Meditation’, and ‘Action Plan’. Inspired by the story of ‘Sadako’s Paper Cranes’, the highlight of this event will be the ‘Peace Crane’ activity, which will involve the delegates in the exchange of messages on peace-building using origami cranes. The cranes will be kept by the delegates as a memorabilia and a constant reminder of the message of peace.
GUNS2CARNATION
The Carnation Revolution is the name of a magnanimous process in Portugal that steered the entire nation down a brighter path. It is marked by the overthrowal of a cruel, despotic government and ultimately the disintegration of an evil regime by the citizens of Portugal. The impact of this Revolution remains a remarkable example of not only the level of political change that can take place when repressed people unite for political and social liberation, but also how they were able to achieve it - through a mass action of civil non-violence.
Taking this chapter from Portugal’s history forward, NEIMUN initiates the ‘Guns2Carnation’ event to teach delegates that guns and warfare are not solutions to bring about positive change in society, but that only through the joining of hands in non-violence and diplomatic action can real peace and security can be achieved through a ‘Peaceful Revolution of Change'.
This Event will be marked by the symbolic exchange of carnation flowers, the symbol of the Carnation Revolution, as well as the lighting of candle in true belief in non-violence and the power of mass civil action.
